The White Line

Our story Is a simple one. We all grew up around sport in Wales. Played in, coached it, followed it, lived it, loved it. But we couldn’t just do any sport. Not every sport was available to us living in this part of Wales, so we wanted to change that. Some never get a chance to try something different and it’s this chance that we wanted to create, and encourage it on a sporting journey.

Game Changer

So. In our local junior rugby team. Some had never played table tennis. Inspired by Mathew Syed’s excellent book Bounce, we set up a table tennis club. Some had never surfed, despite living only 20 miles from some of the best surfing beaches in the UK, we took them surfing. We took them canyoning, indoor skiing, boxing, and even arranged for some to take part in junior triathlons and a formal athletics club event which they had never done before.

The blind side

Go2Ten by the way (those of you old enough to remember) is Computer BASIC language for ‘repeat’. It lends itself perfectly to encouraging and rewarding repeat behaviour in sport, so this is what we started doing. We could see clearly that athletes, parents, volunteers and officials week-after-week and year-after-year and in sport-after-sport turn up to keep our sports bubbling. We had a clever yet simple way to recognise and reward this, so Go2Ten was born and the rest is history.
